Native Para-Judicial Services of Québec
25th ANNIVERSARY OF
THE NATIVE PARA-JUDICIAL SERVICES OF QUÉBEC
The Native Para-Judicial Services of Québec emphasized their 25 years of existence on Wednesday, June 14th last, with a Native flavoured feast at the Wendake Restaurant La Sagamité, which allowed the gathering of several actors of its 25 years of services rendered.
An honorary drink was served at 6:00 p.m. sharp and was followed with a very appreciated performance by the well known Sandokwa Dance Group. A delicious Native flavoured meal concluded this special occasion. On the one hand, these celebrations were held to celebrate the 25 years of involvement of The Native Para-Judicial Services of Québec, in matters of aid and assistance in criminal and penal justice for all Natives, and on the other hand, to bring together all the Members of the Board of Directors, Employees, Associates and Departments who have contributed to the success of the Corporation in the course of these last 25 years.
Thank you to all who, from close by or afar, have understood the problems of the judicial services for the First Nations, the Inuit and the Métis in Québec, and carefully brought their important contribution and cooperation in order to appropriately serve our Native clientele during these last 25 years. With this experience in services and the sustained effort of the staff and partners, we are confident that we will proudly pursue our commitments to our clientele, this for generations to come.

A WEB SITE FOR THE NATIVE
PARA-JUDICIAL SERVICES OF QUÉBEC
OR THE NPJSQ IF YOU PREFER
Welcome to all on the Internet Site of the Native Para-Judicial Services of Québec. This Site will allow you, on the one hand, to know us better and get all the necessary information on the legal process and the world of Justice.
You will find on this Site all the explanations pertaining to our roles and mandates in the various programs we offer. But, really, who are we?
Commonly called the N.P.J.S.Q., we are a non-profit and apolitical organization offering aid services to Natives involved in the criminal and penal legal system, no matter where their communities are located and also at the level of the Adult Court as well as the Youth Tribunal. The N.P.S.Q. offers services from real resource people linked to Natives in matters of Justice, in the eighteen points of service across the Province and in the eleven federal prison establishments.
Courtworkers are on hand to inform you on the proceedings of the legal process and to explain each stage to you so that you will know about, and understand your rights and responsibilities as a defendant and as a Native. They inform their clientele so that each one gets a just and equitable treatment, and even supply all the information pertaining to customs and ways of life of Natives, or some data concerning the defendant, this on request from the Court or the lawyer. More and more, lawyers appeal directly to the Native Courtworker to better understand their case and above all, their client.
But, in fact, who are the clients of the Courtworkers ? It concerns any Native defendant off or on reserve who needs assistance and who wishes to better understand the legal process, and all that it incurs. And if, at any time, the defendant had to be incarcerated, the Liaison Agent would take up the case by assisting and informing him/her on the workings of the federal prison establishments and on the importance of the appropriate programs. The Courtworkers may also help the victims and witnesses in any event relating to the legal process. On the other hand, the employees of the N.P.S.Q. are not lawyers, but really counsellors who work with you.
To conclude, whatever the criminal or penal legal workings incur in your case, an employee of the Native Para-Judicial Services of Québec will always be there to inform you, to help you and to ensure that none of your rights are transgressed, always staking on the Native belonging and on the special spirituality that follows.
